Review of Mass Effect 3 ( Multiplayer )

I usually review entire games that I believe are gems are that have been skipped over and underappreciated. However, this time it is different. Everyone who has played Mass Effect has found it a very good game. You are a space marine who saves the freaking universe time and time again from a threat that many believe don’t believe exist called The Reapers. In the first game, you are promoted to take down a rogue agent who is helping the threat take out organic life as we know it. In the second game, you are revived by rogue pro-human group that to take on a literal suicide mission to save the universe. And in the third game, you are put in a more political role to take one last stand to save all life across the universe as you know it. The series is exciting and very involved. But I feel that most do not know that the 3rd installment has a multiplayer aspect to it. In the third game, you have to gain help from the different species and cultures throughout the universe to stop The Reapers.

The multiplayer ties in with the story by allowing players to pick characters to fight the good fight in the trenches. You pick your class that each has their own special abilities and each class as alien races that best fit that class. Since the release of the 3rd installment, they have expanded the races you can pick and the variety of weapons you can choose from. The MP isn’t PVP but Co-Op. You and 3 other players must try to survive 10 waves of enemies, each with different objectives. At the end of the 10th wave, you have to extract your team as the enemies try to stop you by throwing everything at you to stop you from leaving! The Co-Op has several levels of difficulties: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Now Bronze is a good way to understand how the game. You get to pick your enemies for the Co-Op missions that range from: - the Geth ( a robotic race of soldiers ) - the Collectors ( a race of aliens that few have seen but many fear ) - Cerberus ( the pro-human group that wants to make humanity leap in advancement by any means necessary ) - and of course The Reapers ( the death bringers of the universe ).

You can also pick the location where the mission can take place from many battlegrounds throughout the universe. There is also a Unknown setting that gives you random enemies at a random location. Kind of a feeling of a “Bringing It On” kind of feeling. You can start a mission by yourself but you will quickly realize that that is not a good idea at all. Enemies will attack you from all angles and with everything they got. And that is before they bring in their heavy hitters. You quickly realize that you have to bring in reinforcements ( ie - other players ). The MP allows for Lone Wolf players to work together in their own way. This mode allows for you to know what you are good at and use that skill set to survive the onslaught of enemies. The Bronze difficulty level is a nice training session to see how the game works and to find a good team of other players … ( and trust me when I saw that it is freaking awesome that you will ALMOST ALWAYS find other players still playing this game! ) … but once you realize that you leave Bronze for Silver without a good character that you have personally developed and a good team of other players who have done the same … well you will realize that the difficulty level between Bronze and Silver is like the distance between the north and south pole. You may think that you are the King Shit in Bronze but Silver will show you that you are a grunt. Not a normal military grunt but … imagine Halo Grunts. Yeah … those Halo Grunts outrank you. That is I feel Mass Effect Multiplayer Silver Difficulty has me feeling … AND I FUCKING LOVE IT! The challenge is fun and it keeps you fighting. Also, you find other players that range from, “we just got this game” to “we have been playing since release day”. The online community is still there and enjoyable. Which is good because you need other players to really enjoy it. The tie in to the campaign mode is that you can input your developed, weather and experience fighters to the front line to help Commander Shepard to fight The Reapers. The more fighters you send to Shepard’s cause, the more the universe is ready for the oncoming attack from The Reapers! So you have a sense of accomplishment between your Co-Op mode fights and your campaign mode fighting. Granted, you do not actually see your characters again in the single player but with the galaxy being more ready and ready, you feel more involved in the fight for life in the universe. So all in all, this Multiplayer Mode in Mass Effect 3, is something that people are missing out in the Cooperative Community. The series is great in many ways ( except the promise of different endings ) but this Cooperative Multiplayer Game-play is fun, challenging and keeps you coming back to fight the fight that you enjoy to fight. Some mentioned that Mass Effect’s space between actual gunfights was so extensive and this is the cure for that particular thing. Even with that, I do believe that this game is a borrow. Why just a borrow? Because it might not be what you want. Some people are more into PVP and not PVE multiplayer. But if you think that joining arms and fighting a fight worth fighting … the get this game with a few buddies and show em what you are made of!
