Review of Venetica

2009 brought us so many amazing games. The one I want to talk about today is the fantasy-themed role-play game: Venetica. It caught my interest, not just because it was a role-playing game, of which I am a fan, but because of the story-line. Allow me to set the scene;

It's the 16th-century and you are Scarlett, the female protagonist of our story. A raucous celebration comes to a halt when assassins attack the town of San Pasquale, where you live. Your beloved fiancee, Benedict is brutally murdered by the assassins and you are bent on revenge.

This story line is certainly isn't original, however, there is a unique spin. You are (unbeknownst to the player and character) the. daughter of Death himself. That's right, Death. Though you lack the overall powers of Death at the beginning of the game, over the course of the game, you begin honing in on your abilities with both the help from your father and the spirit of your lost love, Benedict.

Though you start your journey to avenge Benedict, you become embroiled in an adventure of so much more. Your father sends you on a mission to save the very world as you know it from the man who sent the assassins that slaughtered your beloved so callously. As you make your way through the story you realize that the assassins were after you. The Undead Archon and his five minions sent them to eliminate you before you could reach your full potential as the daughter of Death.

This game requires a lot of patience, decision making, fast reflexes and love of combat. I cant tell how many times I played this game just to make different decisions to see if it changed the outcome of the game. I must warn you, some puzzles in this game are hard and require you to really think about them. Overall, with the determination of avenging your fiancee along with the powers of your father, your adventure is sure to be an interesting one.

Venetica gameplay-wise the controls are fairly simple to understand and the graphics are fantastic for a 2009 game. Story-line is great and the powers are unique. This game is a definite buy! Way to go, Venetica! Now I want to play it again.
